Brown Everyday Carry: Tops Knives, Streamlight, Boker Plus, and Handmade Leather

Tops knives, Streamlight and Boker Plus

The theme for my everyday carry this week is the color Brown! I couldn’t stick with the theme completely as I don’t have a brown flashlight or pen with me. As some of you might know I’m an Australian guy who has been here in Istanbul, Turkey for the year. So I don’t have much EDC gear with me.

I believe the knife laws are similar here to those in Australia (very restrictive.. meaning no legal carry anywhere). So I didn’t want to bring too much gear with me or I would look like a scary man 👻 I did bring the Cold Steel XL Voyager with me though as it’s a good.. food prep folder!

I haven’t found any decent knife or EDC gear stores in Istanbul yet either, but I plan to look more closely as I’ve started doing more knife reviews. One thing I have noticed is that the price of big brand name knives are even more expensive here in Turkey than they are in Australia! I should have brought all my Spyderco, Zero Tolerance and Cold Steel folders with me to sell them at a profit!

But anyway, back to the point of this post which is..

Brown Everyday Carry Pocket Dump

Top left is my trusty brown alligator leather wallet from Tosca. I don’t know much about it but it works and hasn’t fallen apart on me yet, so that’s a good thing. I wish it had more money in it though! There must be a hole in mine as the cash disappears pretty quickly.

Top right is my handmade leather passport holder that was given to me as a gift. It has a really nice feel to it which will just get better with age. I don’t know much about who made it unfortunately. It was made here in Turkey though.

Bottom left is another gift that I was given here in Istanbul, a set of prayer beads or worry beads. I was shown how to use them properly but to be honest, I don’t use them or carry them very much. I would rather flip my Zero Tolerance 0450 than play with beads. They’re an interesting addition to my EDC though as it refers to the culture of the country that I’m currently living in.

Bottom right we’ll start with the pen and go up from there. It’s a Boker Plus K.I.D. Cal .50 carbon fiber tactical pen. It has the fun to play with bolt action mechanism, it’s only about 4.3 inches (10.9cm) in length, and you can use PR4 Fisher Space Pen refills. So it’s a little beauty. I like the carry clip on it too.

Above the Boker Plus tactical pen is a flashlight from Streamlight, the ProTac 2AA torch. I do like myself some Streamlight lighting. I’ve probably owned more of their flashlights than any other brand. It’s a compact little unit with 250 lumens and a 2 hour run time on high. Length is about 6.1 inches or 15.6cm. It has a carry clip and can be used as a tactical flashlight for self defense.

Last but not least is the brown folding knife. It’s the TOPS Knives Mini Scandi Folder or MFS 4.0. The scandi grind on this little flipper is amazing. It chops and slices through all sorts of things with ease. Blade steel is N690Co and it has canvas Micarta handle scales with stainless steel liners. I’ll do a review on this little beauty soon.
