All Black EDC with a Casio G-Shock GA-2100-1A Watch

November 26, 2019 by directness Leave a Comment

All black everyday carry

I’m still in Istanbul, Turkey so my EDC gear is pretty limited as it’s all back home in Australia, but I did buy a new watch this week. I picked up the new Casio G-Shock GA-2100-1A. I was looking for the all black model (GA-2100-1A1) but couldn’t get hold of one.

I’m glad I didn’t now though as the white accents have really grown on me. It adds a little class to a rugged working watch that isn’t meant to have style or class. It comes in the black model with white accents like I have, an all black model which I’m told is difficult to read, and an all red model. My guess is that they’ll eventually make more colors available as the GA2100 will be a massive success for Casio.

People are calling the GA-2100 watch the CasiOak which refers to the likeness of the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak. The octagonal bezel definitely shares a likeness with the famous AP watch but Casio say it’s inspired by their DW-5000c model which has an irregular octagonal bezel. Either way, it has been dubbed the CasiOak by watch enthusiasts and it seems to be sticking.

Starting with the big boy on the right: Cold Steel XL Voyager with an AUS10A clip point blade. I love all of the ridiculously large XL knives from Cold Steel and the Voyager series is definitely recommended if you’re on a budget.

AUS10A is very reasonable steel with pretty good edge retention and you get a LOT of blade for your money. And although the XL Voyager has a 5.5 inch blade and is 12.2 inches open, it’s actually manageable as an everyday carry knife. Seriously. Yes you’ll need jeans, a belt, and not much else in your pocket, but it’s possible.

In the middle is the Streamlight ProTac 2AA torch which I have already featured in a few EDC pictures in recent weeks. I do wish I had more gear available to me but like I’ve said, I’m not at home (Australia) and I have very little with me here in Istanbul. It is a great little flashlight though which is why I brought it along with me on my travels.

And on the left is my new purchase which I mentioned at the start of this post, the Casio G-Shock GA2100 in black and white. I’m really liking it and will do a full review of it in the coming weeks. I would like a camo or olive drab green version, a full metal version, and an orange version of it please Casio! I’ve seen the new black model with red and green accents come out in time for the Christmas holidays, so I’m sure it’s only time before new versions of the GA 2100 come out.
